Quiet Smiles

Its the quiet moments.

When you're sitting quietly by yourself in a restaurant that you know.

When you have finished off your last bite, downed your drink and put down your book.

This is when you are sure.

Quiet moments can be killers. A million things to preoccupy. Your life flooding in. Traffic tickets. Your health. The bills. Your next step in life. Your last step. Hell, where you're standing now. Your accomplishments, and the people around you all crashing in. Disturbing your peace, and making it hard to digest your lunch.

But this is when you know.

You sit there, the crushing weight of life balanced on your plate with the rest of your mashed potatoes, and you know.

Know by the smile that drifts across your face.

You smile at each item on that long list of woes because they are challenges rather then worries. A smile because the people in your life turn the hardships into mirth and adventure.

That with your friends, there is that one person who makes it all possible.

With her love and patience and humor besides you.

That smile is her.

A smile that knows that any task is a joy when you know you're not doing it alone.

That your friends are there to share and to help you through.

That she will take part.

A smile that expresses a love for her. A love for the world through her.

Thank you to everyone in my life.

Thank you to her.

Thank you with a smile that shows what words so often fail to say.

A smile that says, I love you Sara.
