Sara Stelle - 71 Type III Fastback

Sara's Fastback

When I (Sara wrote the bio herself) was 14 years old, my godfather and VW enthusiast Roger Swift bought this old beatup piece of junk. I was told over and over how rare and wonderful it was, but it held no interest.

After a year of work, he brought it by one day and showed off. With a new coat of paint, tires and an engine, it seemed different. I proclaimed that day it would be mine, but no one took me seriously.

A caravaning we will go...

Sure enough, a few months later money was exchanged and the car was mine. My dad put in another years worth of work into it, and on January 18, 1994 (my 16th birthday) I officially drove the car alone for the first time.

Since then it has won a few awards at local shows in South Florida mostly because it's been the only type 3 in the show. But lately I'm getting some competition....

It has survived 3 accidents, the first one totaled the front and back of the car, the second crushed the left front of the car and the third banged up the right front fender. Each time my dad (Mr. Fix-it) has done the repairs himself. And only the first one was my fault!!!

A caravaning we will go...

We now own two other fast backs, both in various stages of repair or dismay, depending how you look at it. Pretty soon we'll corner the market.
