The Palmetto Bugs Gazette

Palmetto Bugs is a club for VW lovers (ALL kinds of VWs - in every conceivable condition). You don't have to sign anything or pay anything to be a member- you don't even have to own or drive or drive a VW - just show up with some regularity and be willing to listen to nearly incessant VW chat. We have fun (mostly by eating :-) ), share info about VWs and, whenever possible, do a little community service through Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami.

ONGOING EVENTS

1st Thursday of each month: DINNER and CARAVAN -- Meet at University Christian Church parking lot right across from Ludlam Elementary School (S.W. 67th Avenue and 72nd Street) at 7:00 pm and caravan somewhere to eat. We pick the places with good food, inexpensive prices and space to hang out and talk.

1st Saturday of each month: FREE OPEN CAR SHOW -- Fuddrucker's restaurant parking lot (S.W. 104th Street at U.S. 1) anytime after 5:00 pm. Palmetto Bugs participation is sporatic.

2nd Tuesday of each month: VOLKSBLAST PLANING METTING -- Yes, Volksblast '01, the madness continues! Meeting locations will rotate among members' homes. We are on hiatus until July. Drop us a note if you want the current details.

3rd Sunday of each month: BREAKFAST and CARAVAN -- Meet at the now closed Riviera Cinema (1560 South Dixie Highway) next to Spec's in Coral Gables at 7:30 am and caravan somewhere to eat. Enjoy watching heads turn as we drive by!

Once every couple of months or so on Saturday: COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY - The Palmetto Bugs contribute time and labor to Habitat for Humanity. Meet at Riviera Cinema at 7:30 am (breakfast from Dunkin Donuts) and caravan to a NEW construction site TBA). Then caravan to lunch somewhere where they won't care how dirty and sweaty we are.

Every Sunday night, Widefive Vintage ('67 and older) VW club meets at the Sun Trust Bank parking lot at Bird Road and S.W. 83rd Avenue for a VW chat and sometimes dinner. Arrive at 8:30-9:00 pm and stay until you drop. For additional information call Bill Dwyer, 305-551-8161.

NOTES

Thanks to everyone who participated in the King Orange Bowl Parade on New Years Eve! We were a rousing success. The crowd loved Bret's wheelies, our baton twirler, and the candy thrown to the kids. If anyone would like to see what we looked like on TV, we will be showing the video at the next Volksblast meeting. Also check the web site for pictures taken by our many photographers. Edward Zyne has set up a website with some of the pictures taken: Zing.com.

The tradition continues next February 18, 2001 with VolksBlast 2001: A Volkswagen Odyssey. Meetings are on once a month, 2nd Tuesday at different member houses. Check your email for updates every month. We are still looking for volunteers to step forward and fearlessly lead, so search your heart and answer the call!
