Goodbye To Daddy

This one arrived from my sister not so long ago, and I just couldn't resist sharing. She wrote it just before our father died and it does a good job a crystallizing a lot of similar thoughts I had on the topic.

So, the first guest rant at the Virtual Soap Box comes from my sister Linda Parets.

Goodbye To Daddy

I guess I was daddy's little girl,
But it was something I never saw,
All the time you spent away,
Left my self esteem so raw.

You never came to school,
You never saw me sing.
I grew up trying to make you notice
You never saw a thing.

(Refrain)
But all of those things have faded white,
As the eve of life turns to night.
I see you lie there in utter silence,
Are you tortured by their science?
So slowly they let you waste away,
Why can't I have just one more day?

All I want is daddy back.

It may have taken the shock of death,
To make you see us all.
But you came around and loved us,
As you stumbled down the hall.

The doctor's promised you'd be okay,
That helped us all pretend.
We moved on and began to grow closer,
The scars began to mend.

(Refrain)

Damn them all! How they lied!!
We want you back, dear God we've tried!
I can't describe the pain I feel,
I fill my mind so I can deal!
I want you back, what can I do?
I want another day with you.
Am I giving up? You deserve much more,
But we're losing this butcher's war.

And I remember watching you
Sitting all alone,
That night before the cutting table,
Took you from our home.

There is nothing I want more in life,
To have just one more day,
A chance to say goodbye to daddy.
Oh please!
Don't go.
Away.
