Flag Burning Day!

This is a protest.

Before we go on read this:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Now think about what that says for moment.

It is the first amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America. It’s the cornerstone of our society.

The first amendment is in danger.

It is time to come to its protection.

There is a push in congress to pass an amendment to the constitution banning desecration of the American flag.

I don’t like flag burning. The idea of it infuriates me. One of the few things that disturbs me more then seeing the Stars and Stripes trod upon is the idea of damaging what it stands for. In actuality it frightens me. The only disservice to Old Glory more offensive then flames is to damage the principle it has represented for more then 200 years.

This proposed amendment is an insult to our founding fathers. This proposed amendment is an insult to everyone who has given their lives to defend this country. This proposed amendment is an insult to our fathers, and grandfathers, our brothers and everyone else who has fought for what is right.

It is time to get the word out.

It is time to make a stand.

It is time to let everyone know that the Flag is only a piece of cloth without the unchangeable nature of the words that it represents.

It is time for Flag Burning Day.

Tentatively set for June 14th (flag day) I proposed that every American who believes in this country set aside their respect for old glory for one day and purposely destroy a flag. Set fire to one. Bury one in the ground. Line a cat litter box with one. Wrap your lunch in one. Do what it takes to let our congressmen in Washington, and at the states legislators know that the only thing more important then our flag, is the country it represents, and the words that its founded on.

Do you disagree? Do you think I’m right on the money? E-mail me about it at mparets@juno.com. It's important to get a dialog going, so I’ll be posting any literate responses here.

Check back soon, I have a feeling this page will be changing a lot in the next six weeks.
